The **Aqeeqah** is the Islamic tradition of sacrificing an animal on the occasion of a child’s birth, usually on the 7th day. In the Ahle Hadees tradition (as well as other Sunni groups), the Aqeeqah is performed following the practices and teachings from the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The dua (supplication) recited during the Aqeeqah is not fixed in any particular wording, but the intention is important.

Here’s a general dua that can be said during the Aqeeqah:
**For a boy:**
*Translation:* “O Allah, this is the Aqeeqah of my son [name of the child]. Its blood is in exchange for his blood, its flesh in exchange for his flesh, its bones in exchange for his bones. O Allah, let this be a ransom for my son from the Fire.”
**For a girl:**
*Translation:* “O Allah, this is the Aqeeqah of my daughter [name of the child]. Its blood is in exchange for her blood, its flesh in exchange for her flesh, its bones in exchange for her bones. O Allah, let this be a ransom for my daughter from the Fire.”
You can also recite any other personal supplications for the child’s well-being and future, asking Allah for blessings, health, and guidance for the child.
The sacrifice is done with the intention of thanking Allah for the gift of the child.
